The Owena Waves handler admitted pointing the finger at his goalkeeper would be too easy, insisting that it does not matter whose fault the ‘equaliser’ was
Sunshine Stars handler Samson Unuanel is refusing to blame goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa for his role in the Owena Waves 1-1 draw at the Akure Township Stadium on Sunday.’
Friday Ubong capitalised on the Super Eagles player’s howler to cancel out Okiki Afolabi’s opener as the Promise Keepers got a valuable away point in the Nigeria Professional Football Week One opener.
Speaking to Goal after the game, Unuanel said: “I’m very disappointed but that is just the game, though we lost the game ourselves because we lost a lot of scoring chances.
“Throughout the second half, we were in their half but failed to bring down our visitors. Anyway, that is gone and we will correct our mistakes and that time is now.”
“I won’t finger Ezenwa for that goal, I take the blame for that because I fielded him and he is the best we have, he continued.
“Anyone can make mistakes, so he shouldn’t be condemned for that. Mind you, eleven players played and he made crucial saves during the game.
“This is not the time to trade blames on anyone, the game has been played and we will must on from there.
“When I get to the dressing room, I will tell my players to take their chances when it comes, be up and doing, always give a 100% concentration and that is just it,” he concluded.
Sunshine Stars travel to the Aper Aku Stadium for their Week Two encounter against Lobi Stars on Wednesday.
