Arsenal’s Path to Silverware: Palace in Quarters, Newcastle and Inter Loom

Arsenal powered through to the EFL Cup quarterfinals with a decisive 3-0 win over Preston North End, thrilling their supporters with a confident display.

Young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri stole the spotlight with a spectacular curling strike, adding to Gabriel Jesus’s opener, marking Jesus’s first goal since January.

Kai Havertz came off the bench to seal the win, setting up a tantalising home clash against Crystal Palace in mid-December.

Arsenal's focus now turns to a gruelling three-game stretch beginning November 2, when they face a resurgent Newcastle United in the Premier League’s early kickoff.

Newcastle come into this match with confidence after dispatching Chelsea 2-0 in their own EFL Cup fixture. Arsenal will need to start strong to overcome the home side’s momentum.

Just days after Newcastle, Arsenal head to Italy for a high-stakes Champions League group-stage match against Inter Milan. Victory is essential, but Inter’s form and home crowd promise a challenging test.

The difficult run concludes with a London derby at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea, sitting just one point behind Arsenal in the league standings, awaits.

With title ambitions on the line, Arsenal will be aiming to close the gap on the leaders while keeping their city rivals at bay.

Ruben Amorim has 4-word answer for if he will be Man Utd boss in time for Chelsea match.

Speculation surrounding Sporting Lisbon coach Rúben Amorim's future intensified Tuesday night after his team’s 3-1 victory over CD Nacional in the Portuguese League Cup quarterfinals at Estádio José Alvalade. Following reports linking him with a move to Manchester United, Amorim fielded a barrage of questions from journalists, but he remained noncommittal about his next steps.

Speaking after the game, Amorim commented on his future by saying, “Nobody knows if this was my farewell match, or if there will be a farewell match.” When asked directly if he would be in the dugout at Old Trafford for United’s upcoming match against Chelsea, he responded, “I will be here.” However, in a telling moment, he added, “I can’t promise anything.”

Amorim continued, saying, “I don’t know. What I know is that I will be at training tomorrow and I will prepare for the game against Estrela da Amadora.” His statement left fans wondering if his tenure at Sporting might be coming to an end.

According to the released report by FootballFlame on Wednesday shows that earlier in the day, Sporting released an official statement to the Lisbon Stock Exchange, confirming that Manchester United has expressed interest in triggering Amorim’s €10 million ($10.8 million) release clause. United, currently searching for a replacement for Erik ten Hag—who was dismissed after the team fell to 14th place in the Premier League—has reportedly set its sights on the Portuguese manager.

Rúben Amorim, who took the helm at Sporting in 2020, has quickly become one of Europe’s most promising coaches. Under his leadership, Sporting won the Portuguese league title in 2021 and again last season. Currently, Sporting leads the league with a flawless record, winning all nine games so far this season.

“We have to wait a little bit more to explain everything I need to explain. It will be very clear,” Amorim said, suggesting that an announcement might be imminent.

At 39, Amorim has already made a significant mark on European football. Before his tenure at Sporting, he was linked to major clubs including West Ham and was reportedly a contender to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. As a former Portugal midfielder who spent much of his playing career at Benfica, Amorim’s roots run deep in Portuguese football, but his potential move to Old Trafford could mark the start of a new chapter on an even bigger stage.

Meet The Most Valuable Players To Leave Chelsea

Only 6 players have ever left Chelsea with a market value of €50m or more as per Transfermarkt. Interestingly, 4 of them left for La Liga clubs. Who are these top-value stars?

The most valuable player that has left Chelsea is Eden Hazard. This Belgian was valued at €150m when he left the London club for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. It is worthy of note that Los Blancos paid a fee of €120.8m to secure his signature. Unfortunately, the winger's value began to plummet after the move. By the time retired 4 years later he was worth a paltry €5m. The next player on this list is Thibaut Courtois who is from Belgium like Hazard. This goalkeeper had a value of €65m when he left the Blues in August 2018. Hazard in action for the Blues

The third man in this category is Mason Mount who left the 2-time Champions League winners ahead of the 2023/24 season. The attacking midfielder, who was worth €60m at the time, moved to Manchester United in the deal. However, he has only scored once for the Red Devils since he made the move. His poor outputs have led to decline in value. Mount is followed by Kai Havertz, a German attacker. This Germany international had a value of €55m before he join Arsenal last season. After an impressive term at with the Gunners, this 25-year-old footballer is now valued at €75m. In fact, only one striker is currently more valuable than the 2021/22 Champions League winner.

Kai Havertz in the colours of Chelsea

Diego Costa and Conor Gallagher are the next two players in this category. These men were worth €60m each when the moved from Chelsea. The forner left in the winter of 2018 while the latter made his move in August, 2024. Coincidentally, both of them left the Blues to join Atlético Madrid.

“Send this Osimhen back” – Former Besiktas forward cries out after Galatasaray win

Victor Osimhen has notched four goals and provided 2 assists in his five domestic league appearances for Galatasaray

Former Besiktas forward Batuhan Karadeniz has delivered a scathing assessment of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Besiktas, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian attacker joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli during the summer transfer window and has made an immediate impact since his arrival.

Karadeniz, speaking to Turkish outlet SuperHaber, shared his thoughts on Osimhen’s playing style and influence, suggesting that the Napoli star’s presence in the league could be considered unfair competition, given his relentless energy and ability to dominate on the field.

The former forward seemed frustrated by Osimhen’s versatility and stamina, noting his involvement in both defensive and offensive plays, which Karadeniz believes disrupts the league’s balance.

According to the former Trabzonspor forward, Osimhen’s tenacity on the pitch has made him a standout, with an impact that appears overwhelming to his competitors.

“What kind of a player is this? I have never seen such a player! Send him back, whoever is taking him, Osimhen has become a scourge to the Super League,” Karadeniz exclaimed, as quoted by SuperHaber.

Osimhen has scored four goals and provided two assists in five domestic league appearances for Galatasaray, including a powerful 67th-minute header to secure Okan Buruk’s men their fourth straight victory this season.

NEW vs CHE: Chelsea’s Strongest Lineups That Could Face Newcastle United In the Carabao Cup

Chelsea aims to avoid defeat in their midweek match against Newcastle United at St. James' Park, with hopes of securing a crucial win to advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup. Given their solid away record against Newcastle, the Blues are favored for a victory.

Head coach Enzo Maresca is expected to field a strong lineup for this important clash. Maresca may opt for either of two formations to strengthen Chelsea’s chances:

In a possible 3-4-2-1 formation, Filip Jorgensen could start as goalkeeper, with Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, and Tosin Adarabioyo in central defense. Marc Cucurella and Axel Disasi might serve as wing-backs, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Enzo Fernandez as central midfielders, while Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix support Nicolas Jackson upfront.
Alternatively, Maresca might go with a 4-3-3 setup, featuring Robert Sanchez as the goalkeeper, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo as center-backs, with Marc Cucurella and Reece James as full-backs. Renato Viega and Romeo Lavia could operate as defensive midfielders, Cole Palmer as a playmaker, and Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho as wingers, with Joao Felix leading the attack.

"I Don't Think He's What United Need Right Now" - Evra Makes Feelings Clear About Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has expressed his concerns about captain Bruno Fernandes, questioning his leadership and discipline, according to Sportskeeda. Evra's comments come after Fernandes led the Red Devils to a disappointing 2-1 loss against West Ham United.
Evra, speaking on Rio Ferdinand's YouTube channel, stated, "I love Bruno, but something I have to say about Bruno, he has no discipline. I don't know where Bruno is playing." He emphasized Fernandes' inability to control the game, comparing him unfavorably to Paul Scholes.

Evra wants Fernandes to be more than just a talented player, urging him to take charge and dictate the tempo. "Be the leader, control the tempo of the game... That's what I want from Bruno."

Former French international Emmanuel Petit also criticized Fernandes, labeling him "not captain material" and citing his poor performance against West Ham.

With Manchester United struggling in 14th place, Evra's and Petit's comments highlight the need for Fernandes to improve his leadership and performance.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy faces the daunting task of revitalizing the team, and Fernandes' response will be crucial.

I had my staff all ready’ – Ruud van Nistelrooy’s admission before accepting Man Utd job

Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted he'd assembled a coaching team in preparation for a new management role prior to rejoining Manchester United as a coach. The Dutchman is United's new interim manager after Erik ten Hag was dismissed on Monday, in the wake of the team's 2-1 loss to West Ham over the weekend.

The defeat leaves the Red Devils languishing in 14th in the Premier League, with a single victory in their last eight matches across all competitions. Van Nistelrooy has now been given temporary control until a permanent replacement is found, after initially joining the coaching staff under Ten Hag. The 48-year-old is already a United legend, having scored 150 goals for the club during his playing career, and made his return to Old Trafford as a coach in June.

The Premier League winner was part of a restructured coaching team, with his fellow countryman Rene Hake joining Ten Hag's backroom staff, taking over from the departing Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy. The move was unexpected for Van Nistelrooy, who clinched the 2023 KNVB Cup as PSV Eindhoven manager before stepping down.

In an interview with his ex-team-mate Rio Ferdinand last month, the Dutchman confessed he was on the brink of a managerial comeback before receiving an unexpected call from Ten Hag to return to United.

"It's 100% the right decision," Van Nistelrooy told TNT Sports regarding his decision to return to United in the summer. "I felt a strong feeling that I want to help build United little by little back to where we feel and know where the club should be.

"I was on the managerial track. I managed PSV an unbelievable experience and I was in talks with clubs to manage, and I love it. I had my staff all ready, and then I had a phone call. I was like, 'Jeez'. I never thought of it as a possibility.

"Erik called me. I said I had to think about it, but I immediately felt, 'Wow'. I started to love the idea. Especially the big picture where it's a new start with the new ownership and leadership. A phase where you start to rebuild and be a part of it."Van Nistelrooy is now United's interim boss (Image: Getty)

Van Nistelrooy's role in Ten Hag's team saw him oversee training sessions and be responsible for opposition and post-match meetings alongside Hake and ex-teammate Darren Fletcher. Given United's dismal league performance last season, Van Nistelrooy's presence has led some to speculate that he could be in line to succeed Ten Hag.

According to sources from the Netherlands reported by the Daily Star, the former striker's debut as interim manager will come in Wednesday's clash with Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. However, reports suggest that Van Nistelrooy may hesitate to accept the managerial position at United on a permanent basis due to concerns it might undermine his relationship with Ten Hag.

When speaking with Ferdinand, Van Nistelrooy opened up about his ambitions at United, as he said: "I just want to contribute to where the club should be and, little by little, bring it there," he said in September."I hope when they reach it, it will be soon. I want to contribute. I feel a strong feeling that I want to do that."

Chelsea can no longer ignore Andrey Santos as summer transfer decision vindicated

Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos is showing manager Enzo Maresca just exactly how good he can be with an impressive goal tally while on loan at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg
Andrey Santos is catching the eye for Strasbourg once again after joining the French side on loan

Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos is proving he's good enough to be involved in the first team next season during an impressive loan spell at Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from Brazilian side Vasco De Gama last year and has drawn comparisons to compatriot and former Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz. He was the latest in a long list of exciting young players brought in by Chelsea, and loan spells were always going to be his pathway to development.

Transitioning from the Brazilian league to Europe has been difficult for players in the past, but Santos seems to have hit the ground running since joining Strasbourg back in February. He was initially sent on loan to Nottingham Forest, but after only making two appearances in five months, he was recalled and sent to France.

After a productive end to last season, his loan was extended by a further year, and he's featured in eight of Strasbourg's opening nine games, scoring a formidable five goals. Competition for places in Enzo Maresca's Chelsea side is high, and the Italian has been brutal in cutting several star names from his plans, with both Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher departing in the summer.

However, Santos has huge potential, and his performances are making him impossible to ignore as he stakes a claim to be involved in the squad next season. Given how deep he lines up for the French side - playing in a box-to-box role rather than a 10 - scoring a brace in Sunday's victory over Nantes was something special.

He will be tasked with displacing Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, or Enzo Fernandez at Stamford Bridge though, which is easier said than done. Either way, he's a player Chelsea fans should be excited about for the future.

Newcastle 'do not think it's right' to talk about Chelsea deal after 'creative' PSR move failed

Newcastle United could have had 'more freedom' last summer if it came offTosin Adarabioyo

Newcastle United tried to be 'creative' with free agents last summer - but Eddie Howe did not think it was right to talk about the club's pursuit of Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of facing his Chelsea side.

Newcastle signed Lloyd Kelly on a free and Howe's team also made a move for fellow defender Adarabioyo back in June. Securing these free transfers so early in the window could have enabled Newcastle to focus on other areas in the transfer market that needed strengthening, such as the right wing, but Adarabioyo ended up joining Chelsea.

Newcastle ultimately spent a lengthy period attempting to broker a deal with Crystal Palace for another centre-back, Marc Guehi, but the black-and-whites stopped formally bidding for the England international several weeks before the window shut because of the Eagles' eye-watering demands for a player with less than two years left on his contract. Newcastle finished the 'most difficult' summer of Howe's career in profit, but could things have been different if the Magpies signed Adarabioyo?

"I don't think it's that simple, but we were exploring a couple of free transfer deals that we feel could have certainly given us a bit more freedom," Howe told reporters before the trip to Stamford Bridge. "When you're in our position, with PSR being very tight, you have to be creative.

"Your first look can't necessarily be the big financial signings and the big outlay of transfer fees and wages because you know there are future problems ahead and you're going to have to be smart and navigate your way through them. We were looking at the free transfer market and Lloyd Kelly was one that we feel was really smart business. I don't think it's right for me to talk about other individual targets, but, certainly, that's something we did explore."

Champions League: UEFA bans two referees until June 2025

UEFA have banned Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial from refereeing, for bringing the game into disrepute.

The two Polish officials went on a drunken bender before a Champions League match between Rangers and Dynamo Kyev in Poland in August.

UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has now suspended both Frankowski and Musial from refereeing until June 30.

After Frankowski and Musial were arrested for trying to steal a road sign in the early hours of the morning, UEFA had to appoint Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Pawel Malec as replacements to work on VAR for the…

Chris Wood Shines as Nottingham Forest Stuns Leicester, Reinforcing Steve Cooper’s Vision

Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood delivered a standout performance, reminding fans and rival clubs alike of his value in their victory. In a recent Championship match, Wood was instrumental, helping Forest secure a crucial result and showcasing his abilities under head coach Steve Cooper. This performance not only highlighted Wood's skill but also provided a reminder of his Premier League pedigree, which has proven invaluable to Forest.

Wood, known for his physical presence and clinical finishing, has been a consistent force for Nottingham Forest this season. His impact on the pitch, both in terms of goals and leadership, has helped stabilize the team and guide them towards better performances. Against Leicester City, Wood was involved in key plays that disrupted the opposition's defense and created opportunities for Forest. His movements, work rate, and pressing kept Leicester’s defenders on high alert, ultimately breaking down their defensive strategies.

Steve Cooper, who has been at the helm for Forest since 2021, has been working to elevate the team’s standards, aiming for stability and consistency. Cooper's faith in experienced players like Wood has allowed the club to push forward. With Wood at the forefront, Forest continues to showcase an improved squad ready to challenge top-tier teams, despite being outside the Premier League.

The win over Leicester City not only underscores Nottingham Forest’s aspirations to remain competitive but also reinforces Cooper’s tactical plans. The team’s resilience and Wood's leadership are signals that Forest is becoming a force to reckon with in the Championship. This performance should serve as a warning for Leicester and other clubs looking to undermine Forest. If Wood continues to play at this level, he and Nottingham Forest will likely exceed expectations this season, fueling the possibility of promotion ambitions for the club.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag says latest injury problems are holding his team back

Erik ten Hag has stated that injuries are once again hindering his team, as Antony has joined the growing list of players in the Manchester United treatment room following Thursday night's match. The Brazilian was stretchered off shortly after coming on as a substitute during the 1-1 Europa League draw against Fenerbahce. Other players currently sidelined include , Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Mason Mount.

Ten Hag is optimistic that Jonny Evans will return for Sunday's Premier League match against West Ham, and captain Bruno Fernandes will be back after serving a suspension for the game in Turkey. However, the United manager states that injuries, which affected the team's 2023/24 season, are an issue again, and the entire club needs to unite to address it."Yes, the injuries are affecting our performance and our standing in the league," Ten Hag stated. "When key players are unavailable, we can't field our strongest team, which is currently hindering us. We need more players to be available more consistently.

""We all need to collaborate on this issue—players, coaching staff, and everyone else involved—to ensure we have more players available. We know that when our team is complete, we become a formidable opponent and can achieve great success, as we've demonstrated in recent months."Ten Hag couldn't provide an update on how serious Antony's injury is, but he expressed his worry for the winger, who exited the stadium in a protective boot.

Enzo Maresca reveals Reece James next Chelsea injury fear as brutal captain statement made

Chelsea news as Enzo Maresca offers candid Reece James captaincy and injury advice
Enzo Maresca has admitted there are no guarantees that Reece James will stay fit despite being limited to just one match a week. It comes as the Chelsea captain prepares to start back-to-back Premier League games for the first time in almost 12 months.

Against Liverpool last time out he was a surprise name on the teamsheet, owing slightly to the defensive tweaks made by Maresca following Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana's suspensions. James lasted just under an hour at Anfield, though, the longest he has played since November 25, 2023.

In fact, in the past year, James has only managed to complete more than one half of football on a single occasion. That rises to three times if extending the period to 13 months. For Maresca, the aim is to get James back regularly before slowly increasing the workload.

"For sure now [James will only play once a week]," the head coach said ahead of Sunday's meeting with Newcastle. "Hopefully building the physical condition so, in future, hopefully he can play more games a week. But now it's important that he doesn't get injured again and he can get games and minutes."

Maresca said of the reception to his critical conversations. "He understands that we expected more from him. He's one of our guys from the academy but this is one of the reasons why he has to show more in terms of personality."

Does the lack of voice from James matter to Maresca, though? "He's a reserved guy, as you said, but not only him. But when you don't have a proper leader, you need to build that. I think we don't have a proper leader. We don't have guys, you can see them, probably Tosin [Adarabioyo] is one of the guys that is [louder].

"So the rest we need to build them. So Reece is there, he's on the way but he’s not there. So he needs to make an effort in that one. The one that is doing fantastic in this kind of thing is Levi.Chelsea's Reece James shields the ball from Liverpool's Cody Gakpo

"Levi probably at the beginning of the season was not a leader but now you can see that he is one of the guys that is always speaking. We need to build that. We need as much as we have, then it’s perfect. Marc Cucurella is one of the guys, so we need more and more."

Chelsea do now have their primary leader back. In one form or the other the hope is there that James will be able to maintain his role on and off the pitch. Maresca will certainly not be letting him go through the motions in the process.

Chelsea player vows ‘I’m here to fight’ after sending strong message to Enzo Maresca

One standout player from Chelsea has declared his commitment to the team, promising he is “here to fight” for his place in the starting lineup. This statement comes following a strong performance during the team's recent encounter with Panathinaikos in the Europa Conference League, where he played a pivotal role.

Chelsea's schedule is packed as they recover from a recent loss to Liverpool. After securing a dominant 4-1 victory over Panathinaikos, they are now gearing up for back-to-back matches against Newcastle, first in league play this weekend and then in a cup tie next week.

Head coach Enzo Maresca is expected to implement significant rotation within his squad, granting many players the opportunity to shine, particularly those who make up the so-called ‘second-string’ team, which recently had its moment in the spotlight.

Maresca appears to favor deploying his strongest lineup for league fixtures, while reserving what he considers his secondary squad for cup matches. However, there’s an ongoing debate among fans and analysts regarding the depth of talent in the so-called second string, many of whom could easily start for several teams in the league outside the top echelon.

Felix’s Determination

Joao Felix emerged as a key player in the recent match, contributing two crucial goals and assisting on a penalty. Despite mainly participating in cup games thus far, he is eager to prove himself and earn a spot in the league lineup going forward.

In a post-match interview with Standard News, Felix shared his ambitions: “I’m here to fight for a place in the starting 11. Ultimately, it’s up to the coach to decide who plays, but I’m focused on doing my part. I’m working hard and looking to elevate the team every chance I get.”

This kind of mentality is essential in a competitive environment and bodes well for both Felix and Chelsea as they navigate this busy period.

EPL: Glenn Hoddle identifies Chelsea star to leave club in January

Former England and Tottenham manager, Glenn Hoddle, believes Christopher Nkunku could ask to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Chelsea signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £52million.

But the France forward has only made 26 appearances for the Premier League west London club due to injury issues.

Nkunku scored a goal in Chelsea’s Conference League 4-1 win against Panathinaikos on Thursday.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Hoddle said: “The injuries are obviously there, he knows he’s not quite at his sharpest yet.

“When I look at Chelsea’s forwards, I think Nkunku would be more clinical than Nicolas Jackson if he had the same time on the pitch and had his chances so far this season.

“Jackson is obviously improving and getting more confident, he has the manager’s faith and backing right now.

“Whether Nkunku is going to be happy… he might be one that will think he needs to leave come January if this is still happening.”

"He is Improving" - Enzo Maresca Lavishes Praises on 23-Year-Old Star Following Standout Display

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has praised Mykhailo Mudryk for his impressive performance against Panathinaikos in the Conference League, according to Sportskeeda. The 23-year-old Ukrainian winger scored a goal and provided two assists in Chelsea's 4-1 victory.

Mudryk's display has been a highlight of his struggling Chelsea career since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for £88.5 million. Maresca acknowledged Mudryk's growth, saying, "Mykhailo's learning process is more slow compared to the other wingers, but he is improving."

The Italian manager expressed delight with Mudryk's goal involvement, adding, "I'm very happy to see Mudryk there, in that position and scoring that goal." Mudryk has made 67 appearances for Chelsea, contributing eight goals and nine assists.

Maresca also praised Renato Veiga's versatility, deploying him as a left centre-back against Panathinaikos. Veiga has shown adeptness in various positions, including left-back and midfielder. Maresca highlighted Chelsea's squad flexibility, emphasizing its importance.

Chelsea's convincing win sets them up for their Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Sunday. With Mudryk's improvement and the squad's versatility, Chelsea's prospects look promising.

Rio Ferdinand Predicts Liverpool Victory Over Arsenal in Upcoming Clash

As the anticipation builds for the highly anticipated Premier League showdown between Arsenal and Liverpool, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has weighed in with his predictions.

In a recent discussion, Ferdinand expressed his confidence in Liverpool's chances, citing their current form and momentum as key factors.

According to Fabrizio Romano official Facebook page.

“I think Liverpool are in a great place right now,” Ferdinand stated. “On form and momentum, I'd say 100% Liverpool!” His bold prediction comes as the Reds have been on an impressive run, showcasing their attacking prowess and solid defensive strategies in recent weeks.

Liverpool, under the management of Jürgen Klopp, has been a force to reckon with in the league. With players like Mohamed Salah, who continues to be a consistent goal scorer, and a rejuvenated midfield, the team looks well-equipped to challenge Arsenal.

Ferdinand pointed out that Liverpool’s recent performances have highlighted their resilience and ability to win crucial matches, which could play a significant role in the upcoming fixture.

Arsenal, on the other hand, has had a strong start to the season, showing promise under Mikel Arteta. However, Ferdinand believes they may struggle against a Liverpool side that is hitting its stride.

Arsenal have shown they can compete with the best, but facing a Liverpool team in this form will be a different challenge,” he noted.

The match is set to take place at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal will look to leverage home advantage.

Fans are eager to see how the Gunners will respond to Ferdinand’s predictions and whether they can rise to the occasion against a formidable opponent.

Both teams have their own set of strengths and weaknesses. While Liverpool boasts experience and depth, Arsenal has a youthful squad filled with talent and energy.

This clash not only represents a battle for points but also has significant implications for the title race as both clubs aim to secure their spots at the top of the table.

As match day approaches, the excitement among fans and pundits alike continues to build.

Ferdinand’s endorsement of Liverpool as the likely victor adds an extra layer of intrigue, making the upcoming match one of the most talked-about fixtures of the season.

Whether Arsenal can defy expectations and claim victory or if Liverpool will continue their dominant form remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the stakes are high, and the match promises to deliver drama and intensity.

Why Arsenal Desperately Need Saka's Return: Set Pieces Hold the Key

According to a report by Just Arsenal, Bukayo Saka's absence has been a significant factor in Arsenal's recent decline in set-piece effectiveness.

Known for their strong set-piece threat, the Gunners have struggled in their last two games to capitalize on corners and other dead-ball situations, which had previously been a reliable source of goals this season.

Much of Arsenal's success from set pieces has come from a combination of precise delivery and coordinated movements by the players to create space in the box.

"Arguably the most important of the aforementioned factors above has been the delivery into the box," and Saka's contribution in this area has been exceptional.

His ability to consistently whip the ball into dangerous areas with precision has made it difficult for opponents to defend against Arsenal's set pieces.

One of the key elements that makes Saka's delivery so effective is the type of ball he sends into the box, often utilizing inswingers.

During Arsenal's recent match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Leandro Trossard was tasked with taking corners in Saka's absence, using his left foot to attempt inswingers.

However, the threat from these corners was noticeably reduced, as it is "ludicrous" to expect the same quality of delivery from a player not as skilled in this aspect as Saka.

While Arsenal still poses some danger from set pieces without Saka, with players like Declan Rice showing they are capable of delivering quality balls into the box, the overall threat has diminished.

"Declan Rice has shown in the past that he is more than capable of putting in quality balls in the box."

However, without Saka's consistency and precision, the team's set-piece potency is not as strong, and this has been noticeable in recent games.

The hope among Arsenal fans is that Saka will return to fitness soon, as his presence on the field greatly enhances the team's set-piece opportunities.

His ability to deliver dangerous balls into the box has been a key factor in their success this season, and his return is eagerly awaited.

As the Gunners push on through a busy season, having their star winger back could make all the difference in maintaining their attacking threat from set pieces.

Chelsea player banished from squad to face Panathinaikos as Enzo Maresca ordered to leave him out

Maresca has been told he is banned from picking one player.

A Chelsea player has been excluded from Enzo Maresca's squad to take on Panathinaikos in the Conference League, it has been reported.

Chelsea take on the Greek giants on Thursday evening in Athens looking to extend their perfect record in this season's competition.

The Blues won their first match 4-2 against Belgian side Gent this month.

Maresca took the bold decision to not register several of his star players for the competition in order to keep them fully fit for other competitions.

Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana were not picked in the Italian's final 27-man squad.

But now Maresca has been told to leave out another player.

According to The Athletic, right-back Josh Acheampong was told by club officials that he will not play for Chelsea's senior or reserve squads until he signs a new contract to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The 18-year-old England youth international is highly-rated by the club, and made a 27-minute appearance in Chelsea's 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow last month.

His current contract is due to expire in 2026, with the club having opened talks with him over an extension. As of yet, however, no resolution has been found.Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong pictured in action against Barrow - Getty

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Maresca expressed his frustration at both the situation and that Acheampong was not available for selection.

He said: "To be honest, I feel a bit of shame for Josh because I think these kinds of games can be an opportunity for him.

"I think Josh potentially can become a top player. He is still 18, so still very young. So many things can change for him, but he can potentially be very important for Chelsea.

"It's so important for the club that our intention is not to lose him. The first thing we need to do is find a solution for his future.

"For him, I don't know if the people who are trying to solve the problem, if they are helping him or not.

"I really like Josh, and I would really like to have him here with us. But it is not possible."

Transfer: Manchester City Eye Gyokeres As Haaland Replacement

Transfer: Manchester City Eye Gyokeres As Haaland Replacement

Manchester City is reportedly considering Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland, which could disrupt Arsenal’s transfer plans for the forward.

Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been in sensational form, scoring 101 goals in 109 appearances and helping the club secure two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.

However, Sky Sports reports that Real Madrid is interested in signing the Norwegian international, with Haaland reportedly keen on a move to Spain. The report also highlights a €150million (£125m) release clause in Haaland’s contract, which runs until 2027.

Despite City’s efforts to extend Haaland’s contract, talks have stalled, and it is claimed he could join Madrid in 2026. Should this happen, Gyokeres, who has impressed since joining Sporting from Coventry City last year, netting 55 goals in 62 games, is the leading candidate to replace him at the Etihad.

A club statement read, “Manchester City can confirm that Txiki Begiristain will step away from his full-time role as Director of Football at the end of the 2024/25 season.”

The statement added, “Following a trophy-laden twelve years at the Etihad Stadium, Txiki will leave his current post… and will be succeeded by Hugo Viana of Sporting CP. Viana will begin his full-time role in the summer of 2025, but will collaborate with Txiki in the preceding months to ensure a smooth transition.”

Viana, who made 39 Premier League appearances for Newcastle as a player, has been a key figure at Sporting, contributing to their recent success under manager Ruben Amorim.

His arrival at City could facilitate Gyokeres’ potential move to Manchester, leaving Arsenal’s pursuit of the striker in jeopardy.

Liverpool Looking To Move Federico Chiesa Back To Italy Already

Federico Chiesa, Liverpool’s latest signing, could soon return to Italy after struggling to adjust to English football.

The Italian media lauded the Italian international as a terrific signing after joining from Juventus at a reduced fee. After winning the Euros with Italy and being one of the Old Lady’s standout players in recent seasons, the move was viewed as a big coup for the Reds.

But Chiesa has only appeared once in the Premier League as he competes for a position in Arne Slot’s plans. He could be about to depart the club.

With Chiesa having only played 78 minutes in a red shirt thus far, Arne Slot was asked about the star, stating that the lack of football was “frustrating” for the player.

“It’s difficult to say when he will return, it’s frustrating for him to be in and out of training sessions,” the man from Holland claimed. “He missed the entire pre-season and then [joined] a league with a higher level of intensity than Serie A. We continue to expect that he will be able to make a meaningful impact once he is fit.”

Calciomercato suggests that a loan transfer away from Anfield could be the solution, with three Italian clubs keen.

Inter Milan, Milan, and Roma are among those rumored to be interested in taking a “calculated” chance on the 26-year-old. Injuries have definitely taken their toll on the player, who requires consistent game time to build up steam.

The season is still young and like Arsenal’s Raheem Sterling, Chiesa is essentially a sixth-choice attacker right now.

He’s playing really good – Guardiola hails Man City star

Manchester City Boss, Pep Guardiola has hailed winger Savinho following his side’s Champions League 5-0 win over Sparta Praha on Wednesday.

Savinho was impressive as Man City defeated Sparta Praha at the Etihad Stadium.

The likes of Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, John Stones and Matheus Nunes all scored for the Premier League champions.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said the 20-year-old is playing really good and has a high level.

“He’s playing really good, he’s a winger who can play on both sides… being just three months with us, his level is really, really, really high,” Guardiola said.

“I want to say something; it’s thanks to the work of Míchel at Girona – he has done it”.

Gaurdiola’s side will now face Southampton in their next game in the Premier League.

Details Of How Barcelona Thrash Bayern In Champions League Match(Check Scores Here)

During yesterday’s Champions League group clash, Barcelona defeated Bayern Munich 4-1 on Wednesday.

Barcelona captain Raphinha scored a hat trick to lead them to a commanding 4-1 home victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, ending a near decade-long winless run against the German powerhouse.

After six consecutive losses in which they were outscored 22 goals to four by Bayern, including a humiliating 8-2 defeat in the Champions League quarterfinals four years ago, Barcelona got their revenge with a great attacking performance led by their Brazilian captain.

Raphinha’s inspired night started when he gave Barca the lead a little over a minute after kickoff when he received a fine pass by midfielder Fermín López, beat the offside trap, and rounded the onrushing Manuel Neuer before tapping into the empty net.

Bayern did not seem affected by the setback and were mostly in control against the home side, who looked comfortable playing on the counter-attack and exploiting the speed of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

But if Barca looked dangerous with the ball and always one quick counter away from scoring, they were far from imposing on defence and gave too much space for Bayern who should have done better with the many chances they had.

Bayern’s wingers Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise were a constant menace against an aggressively high defensive line deployed by Barca boss Hansi Flick.

The visiting side thought they have scored the equaliser in the 10th minute through a Harry Kane header, but his effort was ruled out after the VAR replay caught the England striker marginally offside.
Eight minutes later, however, Kane’s volley from a cross by Gnabry did stand as grabbed the equaliser.

After Olise and Joshua Kimmich wasted good chances from close range it was Barca who got back in front in the 36th minute when Kim Min-Jae failed to deal with a high ball and Fermin Lopez cleverly chipped the ball between Neuer and Dayot Upamecano to Robert Lewandowski who tapped into an empty net.

Bayern players heavily complained to the referee, saying that Lopez pushed Kim in the build-up, but VAR did not consider that the contact was enough to be considered an infringement.

Barca grew in intensity against a visiting side who looked stunned and Raphinha netted a brilliant curling strike from the edge of the box after receiving a crossfield pass from Marc Casadó just before half-time.

Raphinha wrapped up Barca’s win in the 56th minute with a tidy finish from another quick counter-attack and Bayern looked stunned as the home crowd chanted “Ole” to transform Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium into a bullfighting arena.
Barca are ninth in the Champions League standings on six points from three games while Bayern are 23rd on three points after a second consecutive defeat.

Chelsea wonderkid signs new contract after surprise squad decision

Chelsea news as Shim Mheuka first professional contract signed after 17th birthday
Shim Mheuka has signed a professional deal at Chelsea

Chelsea wonderkid Shamuira Mheuka has signed his first professional contract with the club. Mheuka, more commonly referred to as Shim, turned 17 earlier this week, on October 20.

Having become a full-time scholar earlier this year he is now tied down to the club. The announcement comes just one day after he was confirmed as being selected in Enzo Maresca's first-team squad for the Conference League group phase match against Panathinaikos.

Mheuka has already moved from Under-18 regular last season to being part of Felipe Coehlo's Under-21 group. He has scored three times this season.

During the international break Mheuka was called up for England's Under-19s, effectively playing two years above his age. When at Brighton - where Chelsea signed him from in 2022 - Mheuka played against Chelsea in the Under-17 cup at just 13.

He was one of the standouts in an impressive Under-18 side that won the Premier League south division last season, losing out in the final to Manchester United. He scored 12 times in 20 matches across the campaign.

Now, playing in a stacked Development Squad including £17million signing Deivid Washington and 21-year-old Harvey Vale - who was on loan at League One side Bristol Rovers last season - Mheuka is more than holding his own. Over pre-season and in the EFL Cup he has made appearances against senior sides, even though he was just 16 at the time.

Speaking about Mheuka ahead of the Panathinaikos clash, Maresca said, "Shim, we use him as a striker and as a winger. "They [Mheuka and Sam Rak-Sakyi] are good profiles, young ones, and it will be a good experience for them to stay with us."

Enzo Maresca admits key decision he regrets as Chelsea boss amid starlet exit claims

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has recently commented on the contract dilemma surrounding promising young talent Josh Acheampong.

The 18-year-old midfielder has found himself sidelined as negotiations over his future remain unresolved, with Chelsea opting not to feature him in games until a new deal is inked.

According to London World, Maresca expressed regret that he hasn't been able to give Acheampong game time, particularly during the recent match against Panathinaikos, which he viewed as a missed opportunity for the young star.

The club appears to be in a standstill; while Acheampong is seeking assurances regarding his development within the team, Chelsea is focused on preserving its interests, preferring to allocate playing time to those who are committed long-term.

As a result, Acheampong has not seen the pitch in the last month. Maresca has voiced his appreciation for the player, acknowledging the constraints he faces in resolving the situation.

In a press conference held in Athens, he shared, "Honestly, I feel a bit of discomfort for Josh. Matches like these could have provided him valuable experience. I spoke to him around three weeks ago, and our conversation was constructive and positive. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to follow up with him since then, which is disappointing."

The coach highlighted Acheampong's potential, stating, "He possesses the talent to evolve into a top player. At just 18, there's still a lot of time for him to grow. It’s vital for Chelsea that we do not lose him; our main objective is to find a resolution for his future.

Right now, it’s essential that he gets playing time, enjoys the game, and continues to develop. I can’t comment on whether those involved in the negotiations truly have his best interests in mind. I genuinely like Josh, and I would love to see him remain a part of this team, but for now, that’s not feasible."

Chelsea has successfully secured long-term contracts for key players like Reece James and Malo Gusto, which places additional pressure on Acheampong. He is looking for reassurance that he has a viable future within the club’s plans, especially as he aspires to gain regular playing time.

Chelsea sent brutal Mykhailo Mudryk message after £88m transfer disaster

The Blues splashed out big money on the Ukrainian forward in January 2023Mykhailo Mudryk in action for Chelsea against Gent

Mykhailo Mudryk arrived in England with a big price tag and a big reputation. So far he has failed to live up to either.

The Ukrainian was a January 2023 arrival at Chelsea, with the Blues splashing out a transfer fee that could rise to £88million for the forward. That was after he had looked set to join Arsenal.

The Gunners were heavily linked with the frontman and Mudryk wanted the deal, but late in the day Chelsea came in and blew Arsenal out of the water with their offer and Mudryk signed in west London instead.

In just under two seasons though, he has mustered 2,315 minutes of Premier League action - only 81 of those coming under Enzo Maresca this year - which equates to just under 26 full matches. He has five goals and four assist in that period.

He has not hit the heights that were expected of an £88million signing and Shakhtar Donetsk managing director Sergiy Palkin lays the blame firmly at Chelsea's door.

Mudryk was in the crowd at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal beat his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Palkin was asked about the transfer ahead of the match in north London.

He said: "We sold Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea for €70million plus €30million in bonuses. That was the biggest deal in Ukrainian history.

"You don't need a Ferrari if you don't know how to drive it. A normal car will do. If you buy a Ferrari, you should learn how to drive it.

"That's my opinion of Mudryk at Chelsea. I'm sure he will show his qualities if he gets the chance. He is a real difference maker, and you can see that in his appearances for the Ukrainian national team. There are very few players in that category."

Gabriel Jesus and Memphis Depay seriously impressed with Arsenal star in 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk

It’s hard to conclude that Arsenal got rid of the disappointment attached to their loss against Bournemouth despite their win against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening.

Ahead of Liverpool’s visit this weekend, there’s still a slightly glum mood around north London, and Arsenal fans are definitely feeling hard done by.

Decisions haven’t been going the way of Mikel Arteta’s side of late, who have now received three red cards in only eight games in the Premier League this season.

Richard Keys tore into Howard Webb for his actions whilst William Saliba was being sent off last weekend, it’s been a messy few weeks or so from an Arsenal perspective.

However, a feel-good win against Liverpool would certainly get everything back on track at the Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli shows signs of returning to his best for Arsenal
That being said, there were still reasons to be positive in N5 on Tuesday evening, and Gabriel Martinelli’s electric performance was one.

Martinelli’s form has largely been indifferent this season, he’s had strong moments but hasn’t produced on a consistent basis.

However, there are now signs that the Brazilian is regaining his confidence and edging back to his best.

Martinelli forced Shakhtar Donetsk’s own goal in the 1-0 win, a lead the Gunners were happy to protect thereafter.

The £6m Arsenal winger deservedly won the Player of the Match award for his performance, something he went on to celebrate on Instagram.

Martinelli uploaded three photos alongside a caption of “3 points in the bag.”

A host of Martinelli’s Brazilian teammates including Gabriel Jesus replied in addition to Memphis Depay, who recognised that the Arsenal man was on fire.

Arsenal suffer Riccardo Calafiori injury blow
Perhaps the prevailing underwhelming feeling from Arsenal’s narrow-win was in part because of the injury to Riccardo Calafiori.

Chris Sutton was seriously concerned about Calafiori’s injury, labelling it a ‘major blow’ for the Gunners.

Arsenal are now faced by the prospect of possibly having to choose between Oleksandr Zinchenko or Myles Lewis-Skelly to face Mohamed Salah on Sunday.

Jurrien Timber is also an injury doubt and Arsenal might even be missing up to seven players when factoring in William Saliba’s suspension too.

A difficult period for Arteta to navigate, and a time in which the club’s improved squad depth will really be tested.

Long-term Utd absentee returns to individual training with hopes of playing first match in 8 months

Erik ten Hag is now facing the challenge of managing his squad with the possibility that Luke Shaw may struggle to play consecutive games, according to Stretty News.

The Manchester United left-back has been absent since February, when he last appeared in a 2-1 victory over Luton Town.

Shaw was substituted at halftime which was the second consecutive match where he was taken off due to fitness issues.

Following that match, the club confirmed that Shaw would be sidelined for an extended period due to a muscle injury, keeping him out for the remainder of the season.

In total, he missed 37 games across all competitions. This situation frustrated fans even further when Shaw was called up for England’s Euro 2024 squad, only to miss the early stages of the tournament.

However, he later featured in the quarterfinals and semifinals before playing the full 90 minutes of England’s final loss to Spain.

Soon after returning to Manchester United for preseason, Shaw suffered another setback, ruling him out for the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign.

With the Premier League eight weeks in, Ten Hag has leaned heavily on Diogo Dalot to cover the left-back position.

The versatile Victor Lindelof has also filled in, with Lisandro Martinez providing additional support in the defense during Manchester United’s match against Brentford.

There is some optimism for Shaw's return, as he has recently been seen training individually on the pitch, separate from the main squad.

The England international's progress hints at a possible return in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia, who missed the entire 2023/24 season, remains unavailable, leaving questions about when he will rejoin the squad.

Andrés Iniesta Reveals Key Factors Behind Lionel Messi's Stellar Form at Inter Miami

Barcelona and Spain legend Andrés Iniesta has shed light on the key factors behind Lionel Messi's incredible form for Inter Miami in MLS.

The World Cup-winning Argentine captain has been in top shape recently, scoring five goals across three October matches for Inter Miami. His standout performance came with a hat-trick in their final MLS regular-season game, helping his team dominate the New England Revolution and claim the Supporters' Shield with a record points tally.

As Messi continues to impress at 37, his former Barcelona teammate Iniesta shared insights into what’s fueling his success in the U.S. Now retired at 40, Iniesta spoke to ESPN, offering a glimpse into Messi's enduring brilliance. Iniesta added: "Leo is football in its purest form. What he represents as a footballer is the essence of the game. He understands it all to perfection."

Lionel Messi Makes History as Inter Miami's All-Time Leading Scorer

Lionel Messi etched his name in Inter Miami's record books on Saturday, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer with a stunning hat-trick against New England Revolution. The 37-year-old soccer legend's impressive performance helped Inter Miami secure a 6-2 victory at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Messi's hat-trick, scored within 11 minutes, not only solidified his position as the club's top scorer but also propelled Inter Miami to break the MLS record for most points in a single season. The team finished the regular season with an impressive 74 points from 34 games, boasting a 22-4-8 win-loss-draw record.

The match began with New England Revolution taking a two-goal lead, but Luis Suarez's quick double equalized the score. Messi's entrance onto the pitch marked a turning point in the game. Just one minute after substituting in, he assisted Benjamin Cremaschi's goal, putting Miami ahead for the first time in the 58th minute.

Messi then took center stage, scoring his first hat-trick for Inter Miami and securing his place as the club's all-time leading scorer with 33 goals. This remarkable achievement underscores his enduring talent and influence on the team.

Furthermore, Inter Miami made history by becoming the first MLS team to have multiple players score at least 20 goals in a season. Messi's impressive performance and the team's record-breaking season cement their position as a formidable force in the league.

Chelsea asks about £60m star who previously snubbed Arsenal transfer

According to Caugtoffside, Chelsea has reportedly inquired about the status of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic as they continue to explore potential forward signings.

The Blues have shown interest in Vlahovic, who is valued at approximately £60 million by Juventus. However, it appears that the Serbian international is content at his current club and is likely to sign a new contract, according to TBR Football.

Vlahovic has been a vital player for Juventus, despite not always displaying his best form. This inconsistency makes it understandable why a club like Chelsea would consider him. TBR Football's report also indicates that Arsenal has shown interest in Vlahovic, noting that the 24-year-old previously declined an opportunity to join the Gunners.

Currently, Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson is in good form, displaying significant improvement after a slow start at Stamford Bridge.

However, Vlahovic might offer a more dependable option for Enzo Maresca’s team, suggesting that it would be a wise move for Chelsea to acquire someone like him to enhance competition for Jackson in the forward position.

BAR vs BAY: Barcelona’s Strongest Lineups That Could Face Bayern Munich In the UCL on Wednesday.

Barcelona will be aiming for a positive result when they face Bayern Munich in their upcoming Champions League match at Estadio de Montjuïc. The Spanish giants, who are considered favorites due to their strong home record against Bayern, are hoping to secure all three points.

A victory for Barcelona would push them up in the Champions League standings, giving them six points from three matches. Coach Hansi Flick is expected to field a strong lineup for this crucial encounter.

There are two possible formations Flick could use for Barcelona. One option is a 3-4-1-2 setup, with Inaki Peña as the goalkeeper, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Andreas Christensen as center backs, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde as full-backs, Marc Casado and Pablo Torre in central midfield, Pedri as the playmaker, and Robert Lewandowski paired with Ansu Fati as the forwards.

Alternatively, Flick could opt for a 4-1-2-3 formation, featuring Wojciech Szczęsny in goal, Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi as center backs, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde as full-backs, Pablo Gavira as the defensive midfielder, Pedri and Marc Casado in central midfield, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha on the wings and Lewandowski as the lone striker.

Manchester United now have to do something club have managed once in 20 years, Sir Alex Ferguson never cracked it

Manchester United take on a familiar face this week when former boss Jose Mourinho leads Fenerbahce into battle against Erik ten Hag’s side.

Jose Mourinho’s sacking at Manchester United in 2018 always serves as a reminder of how quickly the manager’s job at the club can unravel.

After finishing second in the Premier League in 2017/18, Jose Mourinho was fired in December 2018, and has been trying to find his way back ever since.

Mourinho had a spell at Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, and this summer was hired by Turkish side Fenerbahce. This week he takes on Manchester United in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho record at home vs Man United

Jose Mourinho has inherited and added to an experienced Fenerbahce side which includes two former Manchester United players, Fred and Sofyan Amrabat.

Youssef El-Nesyri, Edin Dzeko, Allan Saint-Maximin, Caglar Soyuncu and Dominik Livakovic are among the players Mourinho has at his disposal to try and score a win over Manchester United.

When it comes to taking on Manchester United, the fact this game is on home turf for Jose Mourinho gives him a key advantage.

Jose Mourinho has managed at home against Manchester United on 11 different occasions during a 20-year span.

Remarkably he has only lost one of these matches, the most recently one in 2021, when his current player Fred was among the scorers for Manchester United.

Legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could not quite crack it. He failed to win away against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid in seven different attempts; losing three games and drawing four.

United failed to score in five of these seven matches, netting only twice.

David Moyes and Louis van Gaal also failed to win their games in charge of United against Mourinho’s Chelsea.

United’s struggles away against Jose Mourinho

2004: Porto 2-1 Manchester United
*United drew second leg at Old Trafford 1-1 and were eliminated

2004: Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United
2005: Chelsea 0-0 Manchester United
2006: Chelsea 3-0 Manchester United
2007: Chelsea 0-0 Manchester United
*United sent out a second string side with the title already won

2009: Inter Milan 0-0 Manchester United
*United won second leg at Old Trafford 2-0

2013: Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester United
*United lost second leg at Old Trafford 2-1

2014: Chelsea 3-1 Manchester United
*David Moyes in charge

2015: Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United
*Louis van Gaal in charge

2020: Tottenham 1-1 Manchester United
*Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge

2021: Tottenham 1-3 Manchester United
*First ever win away vs Mourinho
** No fans in attendance

Solskjaer only United boss to win away against Mourinho

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the only Manchester United manager to win away against a Jose Mourinho side.

Solskjaer did so at his second attempt, with Manchester United beating Tottenham 3-1 away from home in 2021.

United came from a goal down, with Mason Greenwood, Fred and Edinson Cavani scoring in a 3-1 win.

Solskjaer was at the wrong end of a 6-1 home loss against Mourinho in 2020, so it was not all good news for the Norwegian in their match-ups.

Mourinho does have one ‘get out’ for his defeat against Manchester United in that game in 2021. There were no home fans in attendance.

It will be very different this coming Thursday, when Fenerbahce’s vociferous home fans will be in full voice, creating an intimidating atmosphere.

The odds are against current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who will be looking to defeat a Jose Mourinho side in front of his home support.

Former Chelsea star names dream signing for January transfer window

According to Metro, Former Chelsea star Glen Johnson has identified his ideal signing for the upcoming January transfer window, urging the club to pursue Lautaro Martinez.

Some analysts believe that Chelsea cannot realistically contend for the Premier League title under Enzo Maresca unless they secure a ‘world-class’ striker.

Chelsea currently boasts a roster of talented forwards, including Nicolas Jackson, who has scored five goals and provided three assists in eight Premier League matches this season. Christopher Nkunku has also been impressive, netting seven goals across 12 games in all competitions so far this term.

However, to narrow the gap with top teams like Manchester City, Chelsea may need to bring in a superstar, and Johnson believes that Inter Milan’s Martinez would be the ideal addition. “I would love to see Chelsea make a move for Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan,” Johnson stated in an interview with Genting Casino. “He’s a proper goalscorer. I’m sure there are loads of clubs that would love to sign him, not just Chelsea.”

He continued, “He’s one of those players who probably doesn’t get the respect that his talent deserves or doesn’t get a fuss made over his talent. I don’t understand why that is because he’s got everything that you would look for in a striker. If I could pick anyone for Chelsea to sign, I’d pick him.”

Martinez has been with Inter Milan since 2018, racking up an impressive 133 goals and 46 assists in 291 appearances for the Italian club. The 27-year-old has earned 68 caps for Argentina, contributing to their World Cup victory in Qatar and securing two Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024.

In addition to his international success, Martinez was named Serie A Most Valuable Player for the 2023-24 season and also took home the top scorer award with 24 goals in the Italian top flight. He has played a crucial role in helping Inter Milan secure two Serie A titles, in the 2020-21 and 2023-24 seasons, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top strikers in Europe.
