20-year-old striker reveals the real reason for rejecting Chelsea moves in the summer

According to BBC, Samu Omorodion recently shared why he ultimately did not join Chelsea, despite coming close to securing the move. The 20-year-old was on the radar of several top clubs, with the London side especially eager to sign him from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea spent the summer searching for a top striker to strengthen their squad, particularly due to Nicolas Jackson’s struggles to adapt and Christopher Nkunku’s injury woes. While their situation has since improved, back then, Omorodion was seen as a potential solution to their attacking issues.

The deal seemed set, with a transfer fee of £34 million agreed between the clubs and personal terms nearly finalized. However, the move fell apart at the final stages due to a failed medical, reportedly because of an ankle injury. Omorodion, however, had a different perspective on the situation. According to him, "God didn’t want it" to happen, and he accepted that it was for the best.

Currently, the young striker is thriving at his new club, Porto. He has had a remarkable start to the season, scoring seven goals in as many matches.

His impressive form highlights why Chelsea had been so keen on him. While Jackson is now performing well and Nkunku is returning to form, the Blues are still on the lookout for a long-term striker to lead their attack.
