Juventus Rejoins European Club Association After Failed Super League Bid

According to Punch, Juventus has been reinstated into the European Club Association (ECA) after its failed attempt to launch a European Super League in 2021, the ECA's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, confirmed on Thursday.

The Serie A giant had previously left the ECA to pursue the Super League, a breakaway competition involving top European clubs. However, the project collapsed swiftly due to widespread fan outrage and opposition from governing bodies UEFA and FIFA.

“I am pleased to welcome Juventus back to our family,” said Al-Khelaifi, who is also the president of Paris Saint-Germain, during the ECA’s General Assembly in Athens. With Juventus returning, all top-division clubs from over 20 countries are now members of the ECA.

The Super League project, championed by former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, included prominent clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and several Premier League teams. Despite its initial failure, the concept is still being promoted by A22 Sports Management, which envisions a revamped competition with 64 teams across three divisions.

Agnelli, who played a key role in the Super League initiative, has since faced multiple bans from Italian football due to financial misconduct, further complicating the club’s ambitions.
