Chelsea are definitely building some momentum in the early stages of the season, with several individuals enjoying life under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
The Blues won 3-0 away at West Ham on Saturday to ensure it’s been a positive start in the Premier League.
Next, Chelsea host League Two club Barrow on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup. It’s been confirmed that Malo Gusto is fit again and available versus Barrow.
Alan Shearer impressed by Moises Caicedo
Alan Shearer named his Premier League Team of the Week after the latest round of fixtures at the weekend, which included Chelsea’s success at West Ham.
Blues midfielder Moises Caicedo, 22, has been picked out after his positive performance at the London Stadium.
When discussing Caicedo’s display against West Ham, Shearer wrote via the Premier League’s official website: “He’s now finding his best form, marshalling the midfield brilliantly and showing great vision for his assist for [Nicolas] Jackson.”
Chelsea midfield is excelling
Caicedo, who’s started every league match so far this season, is emerging as a key figure in Maresca’s line-up.
The £150,000-a-week star (Spotrac) is so effective both in and out of possession for the Blues as their defensive midfielder. His partnership alongside teammate Enzo Fernandez is only getting stronger, too.
Caicedo started slowly in his debut season last year for Chelsea as he adapted to life at a bigger club, but there were signs of his game settling down in the second half of the campaign. Now, he’s started the 2024/25 season as the player we thought we were getting when he arrived from Brighton.
It’s almost impossible for a player of Caicedo’s mould to fully justify his £115m price tag (BBC), but there’s less and less talk about his transfer cost recently because of the quality of his performances.
