Chelsea are now considering signing Enzo Fernandez’s £50m Argentina teammate

Chelsea could sign another player from Argentina’s World Cup-winning team next year.

Chelsea already have Enzo Fernandez and are not light in midfield. Even so, it looks like the club could still strengthen there.

As well as Fernandez, Chelsea also have Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Renato Veiga for the midfield positions.

Dewsbury-Hall is expected to play against Barrow tonight in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea have Exequiel Palacios on their radar
Fernandez and Exequiel Palacios were part of the same Argentina squad that won the World Cup in 2022.

It now looks like there is a possibility of the two linking up together at Chelsea amid claims that the Blues are interested in signing Palacios.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all considering signing the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

The same outlet also claims that Leverkusen value Palacios at €60m (£49.9m), so he will not be coming cheap.

His potential arrival at Stamford Bridge would see Chelsea have a trio of South American midfielders, with Caicedo also at the club.

The Ecuadorian has made a fantastic start to the season. Enzo Maresca was really impressed with Caicedo‘s performance against West Ham United over the weekend.

What would Exequiel Palacios bring to Chelsea?
Thanks to Fernandez and Caicedo, Maresca already has a very strong midfield. However, it could be about to get even stronger if Chelsea do decide to bring in Palacios.

Palacios is a midfielder who is good on the ball but is also capable of doing the dirty work.

As per FBref, the 25-year-old has ranked in the 92nd percentile for progressive passes and the 93rd for tackles among midfielders over the last 12 months.

Adding to their midfield probably does not need to be a priority for Chelsea right now, unless Lavia continues to pick up injuries. But if the Blues do decide that they want to sign someone for that area of the pitch, then Palacios should be high on their list.
